Our story
Teresa Brown was an outspoken youth advocate that passed away in January 2018 from pancreatic cancer. She was involved in teaching in her school, her church, and her home. Teresa Brown loved teaching and helping others.
Teresa Brown was an amazing wife, mother and educator. For 28 years Teresa served in public education teaching English and being a middle school guidance counselor. In addition, she implemented the girls empowered and motivated to succeed program model at the middle school and assisted in helping develop a similar program at the high school in Lawrence Township Schools. Teresa Brown also was instrumental in educating youth in giving back to our community. She played a very important role in modeling and molding young ladies in how to be young confident women.
Our goal
Beginning with the 2023 school year. The Teresa Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund will begin accepting applications to award two $2,000 Educational scholarships annually to graduating female seniors in public education in Indianapolis IN within The Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township Schools that have served in the Girls Empowered and Motivated to Succeed (GEMS), program for at least 2 years.
Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and an attendance rate of 95 %.
Applicants must have an interest in pursuing a degree in education in order to further support our beloved Teresa's legacy and as well supporting GEMS students advancing to post secondary education.
In addition, qualifying sudents must demonstrate they have plans to enroll in a college or university for the upcoming fall academic calendar year.
