Our goal

I’m starting the Suga Scholars Award because I believe that when someone invests in your vision, it can change what you believe is possible for yourself. Earlier this year, I received a $5,000 award through a pitch competition for my business. That opportunity gave me more than financial support, it gave me the ability to continue building something I believed in. It also reminded me how important it is for students to have people who recognize their potential and are willing to invest in it. I wanted to take a portion of that opportunity and reinvest it into my own community. The Sugar Scholar Award will provide two $500 scholarships: one for a student leader who is making an impact in their community and one for a student entrepreneur who is developing an idea, business, or vision of their own. My goal is to give students a little more room to pursue what they’re building, whether that means supporting their education, developing a business, leading a community initiative, or taking the next step toward an idea they believe in. Ultimately, the Suga Scholars Award is about paying forward the support I received and creating an opportunity for someone else to feel seen, supported, and encouraged to keep building.
