Our goal
Women should have more opportunities for careers in the STEM fields: science, technology, engineering, and math. Unfortunately, only around one quarter of STEM graduates are women. University programs that focus on STEM fields can be incredibly expensive, making it difficult for women from humble beginnings to afford the education they need to achieve their career goals. This scholarship fund seeks to support women who want to attend universities in order to focus on careers in STEM.
The Bronx Institute for Urban Systems (BXIUS) is a community-focused organization dedicated to improving Bronx neighborhoods through education in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and urban planning. Founded by Cesar Yoc, it supports local projects like the Mill Brook Houses garden and fosters community-based research on urban issues.
Key aspects of the organization include:
- Focus Areas: Mapping, eco-education, and urban sustainability.
- Community Projects: Active involvement in community-based planning and green initiatives.
- Mission: To provide specialized knowledge in urban systems for the benefit of Bronx residents and local development.
About Stacy M. Weaver:
Stacy M. Weaver is a life-long resident of the Bronx, NY. When she was in college many years ago, she didn't see many women of color pursuing a career in STEM. Even though times have changed with organizations like Girls Who Code. She wants to be part of that change. That's why along with Cesar Yoc we are creating the Stacy M. Weaver Dream Scholarship Fund.
We are proposing to give out five $1000 scholarships to women that will be pursuing a degree in the STEM field.
