Only 26.9% of executive positions in international sports federations are held by women. The lack of women executives in the sports industry is often due to the societal perceptions of sports as a masculine space. When women only make up a small portion of the industry, it becomes difficult to boost representation as a shortage of mentors and lack of inclusivity can make the field feel unwelcoming and intimidating.
