Our goal

Steven was a beaming light of positivity who touched countless lives before his passing. He was only 21 years old. Tragically his death was linked to the devastating fentanyl crisis. Steven once said he wouldn’t change any of the difficulties he encountered with his substance abuse. He felt the struggle had made him a better and more empathetic person. Addiction is an awful disease that rips apart families, causes financial strain, and cuts many lives short. Substance abuse can be difficult to stop and hard to stay away from, but recovery is possible. Those who pursue recovery often have to demonstrate incredible willpower and drive, and they should be encouraged to maintain their sobriety and take back their lives. This fund will be used to create a scholarship that aims to honor an incredible son who passed from a drug overdose by supporting those who are sober or have lost a loved one to substance abuse.

Steven was a friend to everyone he met. He always had a positive attitude and wanted to help people any way he could. He made everyone around him feel important. He is greatly missed but I’m happy to help this positive cause in his name.

I’ll never forget Steve’s welcoming personality when I joined Phi Kappa Theta. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone with anything. From ski trips to showing me how to get involved within the fraternity and campus, I’m grateful to have been able to spend time with such an incredible person.

Steve was someone who possessed enough passion and creativity to move mountains, I consider it a great privilege to have known and called him a friend. It is my hope that this scholarship carry with it opportunities and second chances for all those who seek them.

Steve was an incredibly kind person that always put smiles on the faces of those around him. He is dearly missed. I've had close family members and other friends affected by drug addiction. It is a disease that is hard to explain and combat. The college experience presents extra challenges for those facing addiction and more programs are needed to end this crisis.

Steven was smarter than me, kinder than me, and always knew what to say. Addiction is an issue that’s easy to distance ourselves from. It’s easy to see someone on the side of the road and think demeaning thoughts about them. I’m still guilty of it to this day. On paper, it looks like there’s options to help people who are struggling with addiction. I can tell you firsthand, there are very few, if any, designed to help those who are pursuing a higher education. This fund aims to change that.
