Our story

As a former English learner and undocumented student who faced many challenges in high school, Farah Assiraj never imagined attending college. However, she pursued a career as a teacher, principal, district leader, national leader, union organizer, parent advocate, community activist, and consultant, advocating for students' rights, quality education, and high-quality instructional materials. Now, she will be attending the Doctorate in Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) program at Harvard University. Her mission has been to amplify student voices and ensure families have the resources to engage in their child's education meaningfully. She lives by the mission of serving others and the motto "to whom much is given, much will be required."

Our goal

Farah Assiraj is launching this funding campaign to raise scholarship funds that will change the lives of students who have encountered barriers to higher education and lifelong learning. Your donation will change the lives of students affected by economic and immigration challenges, wealth gaps, and historical underrepresentation in higher education by investing the following scholarships: - The Latifa Hakim Scholarship for English Learners for high school seniors. Students who are undocumented, LGBTQIA+, those with a disability, applicants with financial need, and those who are indigenous or of Global Majority are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship opportunity. - The Schooling Justice for All Scholarship will be available for high school seniors. The scholarship is for students who have faced significant hardship(s) in high school, providing them with access to college or trade school and who have overcome a hardship such as mental health, physical health, chronic absenteeism, high suspensions or disruptive school behaviors, houselessness, loss of a parent, gun violence trauma, substance abuse, re-engaged as a drop-out student, gang affiliation, and/or teen parenting may apply. Students who are undocumented, LGBTQIA+, those with a disability, applicants with financial need, and those who are indigenous or of Global Majority are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship opportunity.
