Our story
Peter and Josephine began their ministry together in East Freetown in 1951. Two years later, they married and were blessed with two beautiful children. Their commitment to their faith and community was unwavering. When the Calvary Church needed expansion, Reverend Rodrigues rolled up his sleeves, hammer in hand, and labored tirelessly. The church became more than a building—it became a testament to their faith and commitment.
Their mission was not just about building a church, but building a community. They believed in the power of music as a tool for ministry, with Josephine's creative spirit and musical talent shining through as she played the piano. Their dedication was infectious, inspiring the formation of the Christ Ambassadors, a gospel choir that toured extensively and even cut a vinyl record, the proceeds of which were generously donated to aid the church expansion.
The Rodrigues’ virtues were consistently on display. Passion, vision, selflessness, patience, diligence, ambition, and unwavering faith. Peter's hands shaped the church, while Josephine's piano keys echoed hope. When an accident sidelined Rev. Rodrigues, the community rallied. They moved the renovations forward, a symphony of shared purpose and a testament to the profound impact Rev. Rodrigues and Josephine had on those around them.
Josephine's creativity danced alongside her music. She orchestrated treasure hunts, Halloween revelry, and apple-bobbing for the children. But the pinnacle was the "Rodeo Roundup" Vacation Bible School—an innovative blend of Western flair and devotion. Each day, children gathered, surrounded by cowboys, campfires, and faith. It was a testament to their creativity and commitment to making faith an engaging and enjoyable journey.
Our goal
