Patricia Whelan Reading Education Fund

Our mother Patricia was a teacher who loved reading with students. Always beginning with letters and sounds, she would get youngsters reading age appropriate books daily. She truly believed reading was a gift she could share with everyone. We remember as kids the wonderful evenings listening and imagining while she read chapter books. She would later tutor those who struggled with reading helping them gain such an important life skill. An avid reader herself, Patricia enjoyed the camaraderie found in her many book clubs. We know she would be pleased with an effort to support those seeking a similar goal.

This fund is designated to expand the Patricia Whelan Memorial Scholarship which supports future educators providing reading instruction. Our aim is to perpetuate and develop the size and scope of the scholarship by increasing award amounts, number of scholarships offered and expanding to other colleges and universities.
