Our goal

Stability and support are crucial for children and young adults, providing the foundation they need to discover themselves and build their lives. Growing up in a single-parent household can be tumultuous. Losing a guardian or never knowing them to begin with can be emotionally difficult and can leave a child with less attention, financial security, and mentorship than their peers from dual-headed households. Nearly half of Washington, D.C., households are headed by single parents. While individual parents often work tirelessly to provide for their children, the lack of a second income can make it difficult for students to afford to pursue higher education. This fund will be used to create a scholarship that aims to uplift male Black, African American, and Latinx high school seniors in Washington, D.C., that have been raised by a single parent, so that they can attend an HBCU.
