Our story
Honoring the Legacy of Mattie Peterson
Mattie Peterson should be remembered for the incredible legacy she built, the joy and warmth she brought to every room she entered, and her unwavering heart full of love and kindness. A devoted member of Glory Tabernacle Empowerment Center, Mattie also served on the local board of education and was a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. She lived a life defined by service and commitment to her community, no matter where she was.
Professionally, Mattie worked in the banking industry for over 20 years, rising into numerous leadership positions through her dedication and exceptional work ethic. She was also a proud alumna of Temple University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, and Goldey-Beacom College, where she received her Master of Business Administration.
Our goal
Mattie Peterson was a beloved wife, mother, and community leader whose life ended far too soon. To honor her remarkable legacy, her family has established this scholarship to reflect the values Mattie held dear. This scholarship will be awarded, whenever possible, to a member of her local community who embodies the core principles she believed in: academic excellence, community service, active involvement in church, mentorship, and paying it forward.
Mattie believed deeply in the transformative power of education. She often emphasized that a brighter future for our community begins and ends with faith in God and a commitment to learning. By supporting this scholarship, we aim to continue Mattie’s mission of fostering hope, opportunity, and excellence in the next generation.
This scholarship will carry on Mattie’s legacy for years to come, ensuring that her values and vision for a better future remain alive and impactful.
