Our story

This scholarship honors Matt Fishman, a remarkable individual whose journey embodies resilience, courage, and an unwavering belief in the healing power of music. In September 2022, at the age of 23, Matt was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. Despite facing incredible odds, Matt's spirit remains unbroken. A graduate of Northeastern University, Matt's passions led him to pursue dual majors in Mathematics and Music. His love for music has been a guiding light throughout his life, providing solace and strength during his most challenging moments. Did you know that only 25% of Glioblastoma patients survive more than a year? Remarkably, Matt defies the statistics, standing tall among the resilient few who have surpassed this milestone. However, the journey doesn't end there. With only 5% of patients surviving more than five years, Matt continues to fight with determination and hope, striving to be among the select few.

Our goal

Despite his grueling battle with brain cancer, Matt Fishman continues to champion the resilience of the human spirit. It's with this same indomitable spirit that we proudly introduce the Matt Fishman Scholarship, a beacon of hope for students pursuing a career in music, whose lives have been touched by cancer or another medical hardship. Inspired by Matt's unwavering belief in the healing power of music, this scholarship aims to provide tangible support and encouragement to aspiring musicians facing similar challenges. Whether they're instrumentalists, composers, singers, songwriters, or music producers, we want to empower these talented individuals to pursue their dreams despite the obstacles they may encounter.

I sat right across Matt at Wayfair and we quickly became friends bc we both love music and animals! I went to one of Matt’s sax band shows at the Public Garden and that’s my favorite memory.
