Our story
Markus graduated from the University of Central Missouri in December of 2012 with a degree in construction management. Upon graduation, he relocated to Northwest Arkansas in order to work as a Field Engineer with Crossland Construction Company. Through the years, Markus worked on countless commercial projects, and eventually worked his way up into the roles of Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. Markus not only loved the company he worked for, but he was passionate about his career field. He was meticulous with his work, but also was charismatic and enjoyed building relationships with his coworkers, managers, and contractors on his jobs. When Markus would talk about the future, he would often say he had no other career goals besides the one he was living. Being a superintendent truly was his dream, and his only goal beyond that was to manage different types of projects that could grow and challenge him to be the best leader he could be. It brings his family great joy that Markus aspired to his life goal before his tragic passing in August of 2024; however, it is also known that he still had planned to do and learn so much more than what he was able to accomplish during his 11 years in the field. By creating a scholarship in his memory, we hope to allow for other young people who are passionate about a career in construction or a trade related field to pursue their personal career goals upon graduation from high school.
Our goal
My late husband, Markus Koch, was a construction superintendent prior to his tragic passing in August 2024. He was passionate about his work and it was truly one of the greatest joys of his life. I am a high school educator, and I am passionate about students pursuing their post secondary career goals upon graduation. I would love to merge both of our passions by creating a scholarship for a student (or students) who attend the high school I work at who is pursuing a degree in construction or a certification in a trade related field.
