Maddy Gunders Fund for Arts Education

This fund honors the legacy of Madelaine “Maddy” Gunders, whose life was shaped by a deep and enduring love of the arts. As a child, she navigated the subway across Queens on her own to attend dance classes—an early reflection of her independence, determination, and passion for creative expression. Throughout her life, Maddy found genuine joy in the arts and in supporting others who did as well, whether by attending Broadway shows, playing the piano, or enthusiastically cheering on her grandchildren in their performances. A proud alumna of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts—famously known as the inspiration for the film Fame—Maddy believed deeply in the transformative power of arts education. Therefore, in her honor and beloved memory, this fund supports scholarships for LaGuardia High School students as they continue their artistic journeys and pursue their love of the arts.
