Our story

My mother was my inspiration for starting this scholarship. As a child, I was always encouraged to do my best. She inspired me, and encouraged me to stay in school. She taught me to be the best, and excel in anything that I wanted to accomplish. Her words were "Don't just try to get by, instead be the best that you could be!" My academics were achieved very highly from elementary to college. My poetry was selected to go into the newspaper, and I made all A's. My teacher always selected me to go to summer computer camps, and it was exciting. My art piece was selected to go to a museum. I lost my way when I got to high school, and I dropped out of school. Two years later, my mother had been scolding me to go back to school. Eventually, I enrolled in a GED program to attain a high school equivalency. She has always been my inspiration, other than Maya Angelou. Afterwards, I enrolled at Everest University Online for Crime Scene Investigation. My mother passed away in 2009. My completion of my degree was fifty-percent finished. I dropped my classes, because I couldn't focus. I lost my mother, best friend, motivator, and the love of my life. This is the "why" I wanted to start this fund. I am currently attending college, and I will succeed. This time it's not only for my mother, but for myself.

Our goal

The Mabel Johnson Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund is created to help medical students help pay for college tuition, books, or other educational costs.
