Our story

Lester and Coque Gibson are not only pillars in their community but also giants in their family. Together they built a legacy centered around hard work, community service, and keeping family first. As first elected African-American commissioner in McLennan county serving the constituents of precinct two, Lester Gibson made a tremendous difference by giving a voice to those who did not yet know how to speak for themselves. His can- do attitude and determination left a lasting impact on his community and family. This scholarship fund seeks to continue this legacy by offering financial assistance to students pursuing higher education in an effort to serve their community and build a legacy of their own.

Our goal

We are starting this fund to honor the legacy of Lester Gibson and Coque Gibson, two giants in the Waco, TX community. We hope to carry on the values of faith, family, and community service, three values that the late great Lester Gibson held dear to his heart. This scholarship will go on to assist one student from Texas who has a stellar record of community service.
