Our story
Many college students today are the first in their families to go to college. With over 19 million students enrolled in U.S. colleges, a significant number are navigating this experience on their own. This can be especially challenging for Black and African American students who represent about 12% of all college students. Scholarships for first-generation students are designed to help cover not just tuition but also other expenses like books, easing financial pressures and allowing students to focus on their studies.
These scholarships also play a key role in bringing diverse perspectives into college, enriching the learning environment for everyone. By supporting these students, we’re investing in a more equitable future where everyone has the chance to succeed in higher education.
Our goal
This scholarship is for students whose parents did not attend college. First-generation students often have to figure out college on their own—navigating financial aid, balancing responsibilities, and adjusting to new academic expectations without family experience to guide them. Many also face financial barriers, making it harder to afford books and supplies. This scholarship helps cover some of those costs so they can focus on their education instead of financial stress.
Higher education can change lives, but the path is not always easy for first-generation students. Without a parent’s firsthand knowledge of college, they often have to work harder to find the right resources and opportunities. This scholarship recognizes their determination and provides financial support to help them succeed. By investing in first-generation students, we hope to create a ripple effect—helping them build brighter futures for themselves and future generations.
