Our goal
We would like to honor our loved one, Elaine (Laine Rosie). Next to her love of family, Elaine's greatest passion was being a teacher. She found such joy from building relationships with her students, bringing science to life, and having fun both in the classroom and on their annual spring class trips to Florida. She was a gifted teacher who was proud of her innovative, creative lessons as well as the impact she made on her students' lives. One of her favorite sayings was: “no wonder as an adolescent you are all over the place with the earth floating in space and spinning while rotating around the sun."
Elaine often talked about the value of education. She was very proud of her accomplishments as a first generation college student and spoke about how scholarships and grants increased her access to higher education.
Elaine felt grateful and blessed to grow up in a traditional Italian family within a small, diverse community. She cherished her life experiences and lessons learned there and always "remembered her roots". Because of her strong desire to "remember her roots", we hope to honor her by granting this scholarship to a student from Colorado, preferably from Las Animas County.

Elaine Alfonso was President of Lodge 41 for many years. She was involved with WSA many years before being President. This is something she was passionate about and we are honoring her. We miss her terribly
