At the end of my junior year of high school, I was a teen parent. It was one of the most difficult choices to make, and I wasn’t sure what it meant for my future. My mother was also a teen parent, and I had seen how she put her hopes and dreams aside in order to fulfill her role as a parent. I knew that my beautiful baby girl wouldn’t be the end of my hopes and dreams but rather what would push me to fulfill them all. I knew giving up wasn’t an option so instead I did all that I could to achieve my dreams of giving my daughter all that I could. I was a single parent and continued on to work and go to school. By the time I was 20 years old, I had graduated from university with an Associates and Bachelors Degree. Pursuing higher education is a goal that many pregnant/teen parents may feel isn’t feasible--especially when they do not have a strong supportive community.
