Our story
A vivacious, strong, kind and determined woman, Kristen Miles grew up in a close-knit family in Atlanta, GA. A talented athlete in her own right, Kristen was a member of both the basketball and track teams at Grady High School. Off the field, Kristen excelled academically and was a member of the National Honors Society and graduated high school with high honors.
Kristen attended Hampton University in Hampton, VA where she thrived academically and found her life’s purpose in sports. She graduated in 2007 with a degree in Sports Management. After working as an athletic trainer, Kristen continued her pursuit of excellence and began the Master’s program at Georgetown University. She graduated in 2010 with a secondary degree in Business Management and Operations.
It did not take long for Kristen to begin her professional career in sports. In the summer of 2010, she was offered the role as coordinator for the Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics youth camps and clinics. With her strong leadership skills, passion for serving the under-represented and electric personality, she quickly became a standout colleague to support the Community Relations department.
In the summer of 2012, Kristen continued her career with the Wizards and Mystics as Community Relations Manager which allowed her to broaden her commitment to fostering community engagement. By September 2018, Kristen was elevated to Director of Community Relations at Monumental Sports & Entertainment. It was through this work Kristen utilized her fierce determination, creative mind and loving heart to assist NBA players with successfully implementing their respective foundations’ community outreach goals. Kristen held numerous roles within the sports industry. She worked for Athletes Unlimited, as the Senior Director of Basketball Operations, helping lead them through tremendous success. Her most recent role was with Snipes USA as Director of Community Impact, where she continued to make a meaningful impact in underserved communities around the country.
Kristen was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She was an active member of the Washington D.C. Chapter of the National Society of Black Sports Professionals - an organization built to connect and empower diverse professionals in the sports industry - serving as Membership Chair in 2020 and Vice President in 2021. She volunteered with multiple non-profit organizations and dedicated countless hours to supporting the John Wall Family Foundation.
Kristen led with a service-first heart, joy and thoughtfulness. She worked tirelessly and was passionate about uplifting and supporting the underserved as evident in all of her endeavors.
Our goal
This scholarship fund will support the Kristen Miles Scholarship for Women in Sports, which will provide funding to Black women who are pursuing careers in the sports sector.
