Our story

Judy had a gift for making people feel loved. Her home was always open, friends quickly became family, and no one left her presence without feeling cared for. She gave endlessly of herself while asking for little in return. Before finding her true calling in nursing, Judy worked as a hairdresser and real estate agent. At age 50, she returned to school, earned a scholarship, and graduated from Norwalk Community College on the Dean’s List in 1994. She went on to spend more than two decades caring for others as a nurse and nursing supervisor. Judy’s life is a reminder that it is never too late to discover a new calling, and that one person’s care and encouragement can change countless lives.

Our goal

This fund is being created in memory of Judith Ann “Judy” McCaffrey, whose life was defined by caring for others. Judy had a gift for making people feel loved. She welcomed friends as family, supported those around her wholeheartedly, and gave endlessly of herself while asking for little in return. At age 50, Judy returned to school to pursue a new calling. With the help of a scholarship, she attended Norwalk Community College, graduated on the Dean’s List in 1994, and went on to spend more than two decades caring for others as a nurse and nursing supervisor. The fund’s first goal is to raise $1,000 to create the Judy McCaffrey New Calling Nursing Scholarship for a student pursuing a future in nursing. It is being launched with an initial $86 in honor of what would have been Judy’s 86th birthday. With continued contributions from those who knew and loved her, the hope is to renew the scholarship each year and carry Judy’s legacy of care forward through future nurses.
