Our story
Our parents, John Walker Horton Sr and Christine Crutchfield-Horton were North Carolina tobacco farmers from the 1960s to the mid 1980s. Mom was a prominent homemaker, nurturing and tending both children and farm.
Dad worked as a custodian at Lennox Baker Hospital (Durham NC) during day, and farmed in the evenings in Northern Chatham County until night fall.
They raised 8 children and financed the secondary education for those who wanted to continue. These were the two hardest working and dedicated people I have ever known. For this I humbly and graciously honor their legacy through this scholarship.
