Jay Lankford Farrier Scholarship Fund

This scholarship effort is in memory of Jay W. Lankford, who passed away on December 23rd, 2024, at the age of 82. Jay was a man with many titles, including but not limited to Farrier, Blacksmith, Mule Skinner, Horseman, Cowboy, and Leathersmith. Jay was also a lifelong student of the Farrier profession. He routinely attended Farrier meetings even after he retired from shoeing horses and mules at 80 years old. He was in attendance at the East Coast Farrier School meeting in Martinsville, VA, as late as October 2024, just 2 months before his passing. The most important title to me and many people was that Jay was a good friend. Therefore, it is with great honor that I am starting this Scholarship Fund for Farrier Students. The Jay W. Lankford Memorial Farrier Scholarship Fund will be used for individuals that reside in North Carolina, Virginia, or South Carolina. Students that have a desire to attend a Farrier school of their choice can submit an application for review and approval.
