Our story
James Patrick Darcy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and artistic spirit that continues to inspire all who knew him.
Born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, on February 17, 1953, to Richard T. Darcy and Salina, Jim grew up in Gloucester and Rockport—a true son of Cape Ann. He lived a full and colorful life, sharing stories of his years as a Gloucester fisherman, as well as his time as a talented drummer and guitarist.
After moving to East Northport, New York, to raise his family, Jim became a dedicated union carpenter with Local 7, known for his craftsmanship and ability to build just about anything in his backyard workshop.
In his later years, Jim returned to his first love—art. A gifted and versatile artist, he worked across pen and ink, lithography, oils, and watercolor. As a founding member of the Firefly Artists Gallery in Northport, he shared his passion generously, encouraging fellow artists and welcoming all who entered. Whether in his studio or at the gallery, Jim found joy in creating and connecting.
Above all, Jim’s greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren. This fundraiser honors his enduring legacy by supporting the next generation of artists—continuing the spirit of creativity, generosity, and inspiration that defined his life.
We invite you to honor Jim’s memory by contributing to the James Darcy Firefly Artists Student Art Scholarship. Your donation will help support young artists in pursuing their passion, just as Jim so deeply believed in. Every contribution, no matter the size, keeps his legacy alive and inspires future generations to create, explore, and share their art.
Our goal
This fundraiser is for the James Darcy Firefly Artists Student Art Scholarship which honors the life and legacy of East Northport resident James Darcy, one of the original members of the Firefly Artists Gallery in Northport, New York. Jim was a man of many talents—a former Union carpenter, fisherman, musician, and visual artist whose creativity and craftsmanship touched many lives.
Jim believed deeply in the power of the arts and was passionate about encouraging young people to pursue their creative interests. Through his example and generosity of spirit, he inspired emerging artists to develop their talents, explore their imagination, and follow their love of artistic expression.
This scholarship will be awarded to a promising student artist who demonstrates creativity, dedication to the arts, and a commitment to continuing their artistic journey. It serves as a tribute to Jim’s enduring belief that the arts enrich lives and that supporting young artists helps keep creativity thriving in our community.
