Our story

Ismat was a lifelong learner—curious, compassionate, and endlessly creative. A natural leader with a warm and generous spirit, she devoted her life to raising her five children while managing a multigenerational household in Pakistan. When her husband moved to the United States to build a new life for their family, Ismat stayed behind and singlehandedly raised their children in a society where women were often expected to stay in the background. Yet she never let convention limit her. She encouraged her children to dream boldly and experience life fully—whether it was through sports (swimming was a family favorite), theatre, concerts, or the joy of caring for pets in a lively home. In 1996, she reunited with her husband in the U.S., carrying with her the same strength, love, and determination that defined her every step. Ismat loved to write. For years, she poured her heart into a novel that, while never published, reflected her deep imagination and insight. With the support of her daughter, she did bring one of her stories to life—a children’s book titled Chuno and Muno Become Friends, now available on Amazon. This scholarship honors her legacy—uplifting Muslim women who, like Ismat, balance devotion to their families with a deep desire to learn, grow and lead.

Our goal

Ismat deeply believed in the power of education and faith to transform lives and create lasting impact. Though she once dreamed of pursuing higher education herself, she chose instead to devote her life to raising her five children, always placing family first. This scholarship fund created in her memory, is dedicated to supporting Muslim women—especially mothers—who are balancing faith, family, and the pursuit of higher education. This fund seeks to empower Muslim women to embrace their potential, continue their educational journey and uplift their communities – honoring the values Ismat lived by: compassion, courage and a commitment to something greater than oneself.
