Our story

My father passed back in November, 2023 two weeks before his 83rd Birthday. I want my dad to be remembered as someone who would give his last. He was strong, wise and had no problem speaking his mind. My dad loved playing checkers, watching football games, the news and he loved a nice cup of kool-Aid with ice. While alive he was able to witness some incredible moments happen in my adult life. There’s so many special moments but the biggest one was seeing his youngest daughter graduate from college with her Master’s degree. I was the first in my family to obtain my Masters. I’m currently enrolled full time in a principal fellowship program. I’m excited about this journey. Throughout my journey in being a single mom, my dad nicknamed me Ms. Board of education years ago and it stuck with me. I’ve always had the passion to help others. No matter the profession I held, it always brought me back to education, So I’ve decided to dedicate my life to serving children outside of my own. I’m honoring my dad Horace Jenkins.

Our goal

As a single mom, I know first hand at how hard it is to be a mom and be responsible for looking after your babies alone. Even with the challenges, shortcomings and the way society viewed me I still managed to find my way and I want for you to do the same! The purpose of the fund is to recognize hard working single moms trying to become better so they can provide for themselves and their children. Going back to school shouldn’t feel like a burden. Nor should you have to stop due to bills. Yes, life happens to all of us but with gifting wonderful single mothers the opportunity to go back to school and not have to worry about certain expenses. I’m choosing to honor my father who passed back in November 2023 to name the scholarship after him. Horace Jenkins. He was my best friend. I will keep his name alive as long as I’m alive.

To God be the glory. As long as we encourage and support one another we shall never keep the title of single. May this scholarship bring the help needed and the support of love to each recipient 🙏🏾 Thank You Chrissy!
