Our story
In 2023, I created the Sara Molina Memorial Scholarship to honor my late mother, a woman whose strength, love, and resilience shaped the lives of everyone around her — especially her children. This scholarship supports women in Puerto Rico who are pursuing an education and striving for a better future, even in the face of hardship.
My mom, Sara, grew up in Villalba, Puerto Rico. She left school after third grade to help support her family, never learning to read or write. Life gave her many challenges, but she met them with quiet determination and a belief in possibility. After moving to New Jersey and being left to raise four children alone, she worked long hours — cleaning homes and offices — to make sure we had what we needed. She never had the opportunity to go back to school, but she understood the power of education through what she saw in her children.
My mother often said, "Si puedo" — Yes, I can! That spirit lives on in this scholarship.
This fund provides support to women in Puerto Rico attending or planning to attend college or vocational/technical school — women who, like my mother, face obstacles but hold on to hope and the will to improve their lives.
Our goal
Last year, I was able to increase the Sara Molina Memorial Scholarship award from $1,000 to $1,500, thanks to contributions from myself and a small circle of family. This year, I want to grow the scholarship again to offer more meaningful support to a recipient.
However, with limited financial resources and a small family network, continuing to fund the scholarship alone has become challenging. I'm turning to bold.org in hopes that a broader community — especially those who believe in the power of education and honoring personal legacies — will join me in carrying this mission forward.
Every contribution helps preserve my mother’s legacy and empowers women in Puerto Rico to pursue the education she never had.
