Our story
At Heathers Scholarship fund, we honor the legacy of Heather Olivieri, a pioneer who established the first physician assistant-owned dermatology practice in Massachusetts. Following her passing from cancer, we are committed to continuing her vision of empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals. Our mission is to provide scholarships to high school students with a fervent desire to pursue careers in healthcare. Through financial support and resources, we aim to lessen educational barriers for aspiring medical practitioners, enabling them to focus on their studies and contribute to a healthier future. By investing in these young minds, we celebrate Heather's contributions to healthcare and her enduring impact on the community.
Our goal
This page is for donations to an annual scholarship fund in remembrance of Heather Olivieri, who passed away in June 2019 from non-smoker lung cancer. She fought against the disease bravely for two years and was only 41. Her family would like her legacy to live on through this scholarship fundraising effort, including an annual Turkey Trot since Heather was an avid marathon runner. She ran a full marathon at Disney World (her favorite place) while undergoing cancer treatments. She left a 2-year-old son (George).
Heather graduated 6th in her class from King Phillip High School in Wrentham, MA in 1996. She attended and graduated from UMASS Amherst in 2000 with a bachelor's degree (double major in Biology and French). She then graduated from Mass College of Pharmacy as a Physicians Assistant.
She opened up the first physician's assistant-owned dermatology practice in Massachusetts. She hired a supervising physician, medical assistants, front office personnel and other staff. Her brother, Jay, joined the business located in Westford, MA. The business was successful, and Heather was tireless in her efforts to improve her practice. She took classes in her spare time and became a registered nurse (RN).
In June of 2023, Jack and Paula Olivieri presented three $1,500 scholarships to deserving King Phillip High School seniors in Heather's name. They will be pursuing careers in the health care field. This fundraiser will allow us to award scholarships for 2024. To date, over $18,000 has been donated to scholarships. Help us to keep it going !!
