Honoring the Legacy of Patrease Jones-Brown (March 29, 1963 – May 9, 2025) The Get Up and Go Scholarship has been established to honor the extraordinary life, values, and enduring impact of Patrease Eugenia Jones-Brown—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, community leader, and proud graduate of South Carolina State University. Patrease believed that higher education was more than a path to a career—it was a transformative journey that fostered personal growth, confidence, and opportunity. Her guiding philosophy was simple yet profound: “Don’t just talk about it—be about it.” Be who you say you are. Do what you say you’re going to do. Become who you were truly meant to be.
