Our story

George's life was filled with music as he served as a band director all his adult life. George went on to direct several high school bands for the Garland ISD and later served as the Director of Visual and Performing Arts. He also volunteered for over 30 years as Director of the Richardson Community Band and, after retirement, served as Director Emeritus. Later, he served as an Adjunct Professor of Music at Texas A&M University — Commerce to mentor music student teachers. George enjoyed the roles of director, teacher, judge, clinician, and mentor to many different bands especially his student bands!

Our goal

Our goal with this scholarship is to honor George's lifelong dedication to band by helping students who are dedicated to that same passion. We aim to help students of all backgrounds who are united by one thing, band and musical performance. We want to support those who want to continue playing music regardless of their major because, like many members of our band, love of music is not reserved only for those who want to make music their career, but for everyone who desires to perform!
