Our goal
The family of Deborah Brown Alexander created this scholarship fund to honor the life and work of Deborah Brown Alexander by awarding scholarships to High School graduates from Alief ISD pursuing a degree in Education.
Debbie was an amazing person and teacher. She read the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull, (by author Richard Bach) to her 5th grade students, to instill the "adventurer spirit” in each of them. Debbie creatively and lovingly taught her elementary school students to believe in themselves, to “spread their wings and fly”, and to be Adventurers!
This scholarship is a token of the family's gratitude to all the teachers, staff, and students at Deborah Brown Alexander Elementary School for their decades-long commitment to honoring Debbie’s love of teaching and learning.
By recognizing the scholarship recipients at the annual 4th grade graduation ceremony at Deborah Brown Alexander Elementary, we believe current Alexander students will see the scholarship recipients as role models that personify the “Adventurer spirit”.
