Our story

Lydia Fray was an exceptional young woman. Born in 1996, Lydia's middle name, Joy, was very fitting. She brought such a light into every room she entered. A large part of this joy stemmed from her involvement and encouragement of such in the arts. Lydia's joy and love for music was palpable. After Lydia's passing in 2010, we wanted to ensure her legacy lived on while also being able to continue to positively impact others as she did so often in her life. That is when The Lydia Fray Music Scholarship was born. Kay Sykes was a prolific artist and devoted advocate for young artists. Born in 1942, Kay loved the arts and dance and excelled at both. She appeared in numerous plays including playing Big Mama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Kay was in the Living Legends and the Virginia Shaggers Hall of Fame. Kay had a passion for helping young women in their artistic journeys. After Kay's passing in 2013, we wanted to ensure her legacy lived on while also being able to continue to positively impact others as she did so often in her life. That is when The Kay Sykes Arts Scholarship was born.

Our goal

This fund is to enable additional fundraising efforts for the Kay Sykes Arts Scholarship and the Lydia Fray Music Scholarship. These scholarships were born both in memory of their namesakes and in an effort to support the educational endeavors of those going into the arts and music. This fund has aided in numerous students being able to supplement their education endeavors and ensure their accessibility to their selected programs is possible.
