Our story

Our mother, Faye Hilgart loved and excelled in mathematics, and began her career in the 60s, at a time when fewer Math and Science career opportunities were available to women and girls. During her life she contributed to changing that, through teaching and mentoring the next generation of students as a Middle School Math educator. To this day, our family receives messages from former students who let us know that it was Mrs. Hilgart who inspired them to pursue their career in the mathematics and/or education field. Our hope is that this small scholarship fund will continue that legacy of helping girls and women to pursue their passion for mathematics and mathematics education. Erin and Brent Hilgart

Our goal

In honor of our mother, Faye A Hilgart, who passed away on February 14th, 2025, we are starting this small scholarship in her name to support the education of girls and women pursing a higher degree in the Mathematics or Mathematics Education field.

As a middle school math teacher in neighboring Eleva-Strum, I learned much from your mother. What a beautiful way to honor her passion for and contribution to mathematics education!

I’m watching a 60 minutes segment about 9/11 and remembering how you were late to work that day. Your mom was such an inspiration for me and many others. Prayers.
