Eyzaguirre Transgender Youth Education Fund

The mission of Eyzaguirre Transgender Youth Education Fund is to connect needy transgender youth with educational resources. ​ 1. According to the Williams Institute, there are an estimated 218,000 transgender students aged 18 to 40 in the U.S. However, many face significant challenges that impact their ability to stay in school. 2. Poverty and Employment Discrimination: The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey found that 29% of transgender people live in poverty. 3. About 24% of transgender students who were out or perceived as transgender in college reported being verbally, physically, or sexually harassed. The National Transgender Discrimination Survey found that 35% of transgender students in higher education reported negative treatment by students, teachers, and staff, including harassment and bullying. ​ This mistreatment can lead to higher dropout rates and lower academic performance. 4. Financial issues related to transitioning and a lack of financial aid are significant barriers for transgender students. Many report that these financial challenges have forced them to leave school. 5. Transgender and gender-expansive youth are more likely to feel unsafe in school settings. Over half (53.9%) of transgender and gender-expansive youth reported feeling unsafe in at least one school setting. These statistics highlight the unique challenges faced by transgender youth in higher education, from harassment and discrimination to financial and safety concerns. ​ The Eyzaguirre Transgender Youth Education Fund is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting transgender youth.
