Expression in Medicine Scholarship Fund

The free exchange of ideas is the backbone of innovation and safety. Because of rigid hierarchies, consolidation of large hospital systems, and private equity profit motives, expression of ideas within medicine is sometimes limited to a set of prescribed viewpoints. This shrinking of the medical Overton window threatens the development of new ideas and limits the vocalization of concerns, demonstrated most dramatically by industry retaliation against whistleblowers. Professionals who disagree with popular perspectives may feel unable to voice this dissent without putting their careers and livelihoods in danger. The purpose of this fund is to support the education of individuals in the next generation of healthcare providers who will champion the principles of free expression.
