Our story
Eric Bernard Nelams was a quiet soul with a strong presence. He was the kind of person who didn’t seek attention, but he was very charismatic and people naturally gravitated toward him. He always showed up for the people he loved. As a son, he was thoughtful and dependable. As a brother, he was protective and supportive. As a father, he was devoted and proud.
Eric had a natural way of connecting with people. His smile, calm demeanor, and sense of humor made everyone feel comfortable around him. He believed in doing the right thing, treating people with kindness, and leading by example. Even without many words, Eric made a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Eric was also a proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia. He participated in sports and carried true Tiger pride throughout his life. The lessons he learned at CHS, both in the classroom and on the field, shaped his character and contributed to the man he became.
The Eric Nelams Legacy Scholarship is a reflection of his heart. It represents his belief in hard work, humility, and lifting others up. Through this scholarship, we want to share his spirit with the world and help others carry his light forward.

The Eric Nelams Legacy Scholarship was created to celebrate the life, character, and legacy of Eric Bernard Nelams, a devoted son, loving brother, proud father, and loyal friend. Eric’s life was defined by quiet strength, deep kindness, and a genuine heart for others. He believed in the importance of positively impacting others through everyday actions, values we hope to pass on through this scholarship.
Purpose of the Fund
This scholarship will be awarded annually to two graduating seniors at George Washington Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia, Eric’s alma mater. Each recipient will receive $1,000 to support their pursuit of higher education or vocational training.
The goal of this fund is to:
• Celebrate the legacy of Eric Nelams by investing in the future of youth
• Recognize students who demonstrate character, leadership, and determination
• Encourage and support the next generation of changemakers and achievers
