Our story
For decades, Edith Scarbrough dedicated her life to the children and families of Head Start in Wayne County, Michigan. She believed that every child deserved to be seen, encouraged, and loved, and she brought that belief into her classroom every single day.
Her students remember her as patient, kind, playful, and full of joy. She had a special gift for making young children feel safe, confident, and excited to learn. But her impact extended far beyond the classroom. Countless parents have shared how she supported and encouraged them as they navigated the challenges of raising their children. She understood that when families thrive, children thrive.
Education was one of her greatest passions. Later in life, while continuing her work with Head Start, she returned to the University of Michigan to earn her teaching certification—a testament to her belief that learning never stops and that investing in yourself is one of the greatest gifts you can give to others.
Our goal
To honor Edith's legacy, the Edith Scarbrough Memorial Early Childhood Education Scholarship Fund has been established to support Head Start educators in Wayne County, Michigan, who are pursuing their teaching certification. This scholarship is intended to help remove financial barriers for dedicated early childhood educators who share her passion for serving young children and their families.
Your contribution is more than a donation—it is an investment in the next generation of teachers who will inspire, encourage, and change lives just as she did. Through this scholarship, her compassion, commitment to education, and love for children will continue to make a lasting difference for years to come.
Thank you for helping us celebrate her remarkable life and carry forward the legacy she devoted herself to building.

Thank you Edith for your continued friendship. Your love and compassion for children and their families will live on forever in all of our hearts. I watched you as a grandmother and I have modeled myself as a grandmother like you. You were a true gift in my life. Xoxo Until we meet again.
