Our story
The Dr. Tujuana Hunter Memorial Scholarship Program was established in June 2023 by the East Houston Democrats in honor of the late Dr. Tujuana Hunter.
Dr. Hunter was a dedicated community leader committed to improving local education and supporting children’s success. She recognized the importance of academics in helping young people discover their passions, expand their minds, and achieve their dreams.
Our goal
This fund will be used to create scholarships that aim to honor Dr. Tujuana Hunter’s legacy by supporting students from East Houston-area school districts.
Any high school senior in Texas from an East Houston area school district (Channelview ISD, Galena Park ISD, Sheldon ISD) will be able to apply for this scholarship opportunity. Applicants should demonstrate academic promise, community involvement, and dedication to civic engagement.
A minimum of $500 is needed to be able to publish a singular award. However, our goal is to award four awards of $500 each, and to do so every year - for many years to come.
