The Dennis E. Beaver Memorial Golf Scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Dennis “The Beav” Beaver — a lifelong resident of Saugerties, NY, whose love for the game of golf touched countless lives throughout the community. For nearly seventy years, Dennis was a familiar face on the fairways of Sawyerkill Country Club and Rip Van Winkle Country Club, where his passion for the game and his genuine sportsmanship made him a friend to all who played alongside him. To Dennis, golf was more than a pastime — it was a teacher, a challenge, and a source of lifelong joy. He believed the game mirrored life itself, offering lessons in patience, integrity, humility, and perseverance. This scholarship, made possible through the generous contributions of Dennis’s family, friends, and the greater Saugerties community, celebrates both his enduring love of the sport and his deep connection to the town he proudly called home. Each year, it will be awarded to a graduating Saugerties High School senior who has demonstrated dedication, skill, and character through their involvement in golf. The spirit of The Beav lives on in every student who embraces the values that golf instills — respect for others, honesty in play, resilience in the face of adversity, and gratitude for the simple joys of the game. Through this scholarship, Dennis’s legacy continues to inspire young golfers to carry forward not only his passion for golf but also his belief in the personal growth and lifelong friendships the game so uniquely provides. This scholarship will award $1,000 annually to a graduating senior at Saugerties High School.
