Crown Day Empowerment Fund

As a sophomore in college, I created the first ever crown day at my university. It was a day dedicated to helping individuals embrace their natural hairstyles. Many African Americans struggle with the perception that their natural hair is unprofessional and feel as if they should change it to receive a promotion or get a job. So, I created crown day- a day geared towards celebrating natural hairstyles. Students were able to tell their stories and embark on a natural hair journey. Yet, Crown Day was just the beginning. Recognizing the enduring impact of this movement, I envisioned a lasting legacy—a fund dedicated to fostering empowerment and opportunity for students of all backgrounds. Thus, the Crown Day Empowerment Fund was born.The mission of the Crown Day Empowerment Fund is simple yet profound—to provide resources and support to students who dare to defy convention, to those who proudly wear their natural crowns and refuse to be defined by narrow standards of beauty. Through scholarships, mentorship programs, and advocacy initiatives, we aim to dismantle systemic barriers and create a more inclusive society where authenticity is celebrated, not stifled. With each donation, we take another step towards realizing this vision of empowerment. Together, we can cultivate a world where every individual—regardless of race, gender, or background—has the opportunity to thrive and succeed on their own terms.
