Our story

Brandon Tyler Castinado was a soldier, a nurse, a son, a brother, a friend, and a light in anyone's life that he came across. His energy was magnetic, and he possessed the ability to make anyone around him feel like they were on top of the world. Brandon should be remembered for his kind heart, his ridiculous laugh, and his very contagious smile. Tragically Brandon took his own life after a very hard-fought battle with depression. This scholarship will aim to celebrate and honor a life that was taken far too soon, from all of Brandon's people who miss him terribly.

Our goal

The fund is being started to start an annual scholarship to celebrate and honor the life of Brandon Tyler Castinado. Brandon tragically took his life on New Year's Day after a very hard-fought battle with depression. Brandon was a soldier, who proudly served his country as a first lieutenant in the United States Army. He was a skilled Registered Nurse in the Surgical ICU at the University of Utah. Brandon was passionate about healthcare equality, especially in the LGBTQIA+ community. Brandon's gift to the world was his amazing energy, and ability to make anyone around him feel better. The Brandon Tyler Castinado Memorial Scholarship aims to honor and celebrate his life by supporting college students pursuing post-secondary education. Undergraduate and graduate students seeking a degree in all nursing fields would be eligible to apply. Military professionals and LGTBQIA+ members will be especially encouraged to apply.
