Benjamin and Eva Lou Scholarship Fund

My mamaw and papaw were both children growing up in the 1950’s in Eastern Kentucky during the coal boom. My mamaw was born in a coal camp in Chevrolet, Kentucky. My papaw’s daddy started working in the mines when he was 9 years old and he died in the mines when he was 43, leaving my papaw fatherless at 11 years old. My papaw had to drop out of school to find a job and couldn’t finish his education. My mamaw’s family could only afford to send one child to college and she wasn’t chosen. Their love and dedication to each other inspired me to start a scholarship in their memory.
