Barbara Steinhauser Kalinowski Memorial Scholarship Fund

As an elementary teacher, I've always believed in rewarding effort and not necessarily the outcome. In over 30 years of teaching, I've wished there was more recognition for the hard-working students for whom good grades didn't come easily. I'd like to support students from Suffolk County, NY who may have struggled in elementary school, but with perseverance and resilience, have improved their study skills and become successful college-bound students. This is important to me because I am a remedial math teacher. One of my greatest dreams is for my students go on to higher education, experience the joy of learning, and become successful citizens. This scholarship will honor the memory of my friend and colleague, Barbara Kalinowski, who was a kindergarten teacher in West Babylon, NY.
