Our story
Education is the key to unlocking opportunity and breaking the cycle of poverty. Yet, for many underserved minority teen mothers, the path to higher education is fraught with challenges. These young women face a multitude of barriers, including:
Limited financial resources: Teen mothers often struggle to afford the basic necessities for themselves and their children, let alone the costs of tuition, fees, and other educational expenses.
Lack of childcare: Finding safe and affordable childcare can be a major hurdle for teen mothers who want to pursue their education.
Social stigma and discrimination: Teen mothers may face negative stereotypes and judgment from their communities, which can discourage them from pursuing their academic goals.
Limited access to academic support: Many teen mothers come from under-resourced schools and communities, which may not provide them with the academic support they need to succeed in college.
Despite these challenges, teen mothers are resilient and determined to build a better future for themselves and their children. Education is essential for achieving this goal. By providing financial assistance and support services, we can empower teen mothers to:
Increase their earning potential: Education leads to higher-paying jobs, which can help teen mothers lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
Improve their health and well-being: Education is associated with better health outcomes for both mothers and children.
Set a positive example for their children: When mothers pursue their education, they send a powerful message to their children about the importance of education and hard work.
Our goal
The Aviance EMBRACE Scholarship is committed to supporting underserved minority teen mothers or the children of teen mothers on their educational journeys. By investing in their education, we are investing in the future of their families and communities.
