Our goal

The Atwood Leadership and Service Scholarship was created to support students from underrepresented communities, ensuring they have the financial means to attend a four-year university. Darian Atwood founded the scholarship to inspire the next generation of leaders and encourage them to give back to their communities. Having experienced the transformative power of education and service, he wanted to create an opportunity for high school seniors who demonstrated strong leadership potential and a commitment to community service. His goal is to ease the financial burden of college for students who might otherwise struggle to pursue higher education. The scholarship process is competitive, with three stages: the application, an essay round, and a final interview. This structure allows him to identify individuals who not only excel academically but also show a genuine desire to impact their communities positively. He believes education is a key tool for creating change, and by investing in these students, he hopes to foster future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to society. The long-term vision for the fund is to expand its reach, offering more scholarships annually and providing mentorship opportunities to recipients to help guide them through their educational and professional journeys. He hopes this fund will create a ripple effect, encouraging scholarship recipients to continue serving others and empowering them to become changemakers in their own right.
