Our story
Our mother was an infinite ray of light to everyone she met. She loved hard, prayed hard, and fought hard for everything she believed in. She found music through her mother and enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the vocal music department at Benson High School in Omaha, NE.
In our younger years she ran a daycare in our home in North Platte, NE, and played the piano daily for us - silly songs, kids songs, and her favorite - The Spinning Song. She ensured her daughters learned piano and made sure they were able to follow whatever dreams they had, no matter where it led them.
She was a constant cheerleader for us, a bonus mom to our friends and partners, and a stand-in mom for all the students at South High School - where her daughter teaches - that needed one in the audience.
Our goal
Our mother, Arleen Brace, and her mother, Elma Mortensen, truly believed in the power of music to heal, shape lives, and change the world. Through them, we learned the importance of music and have passed it down to our students and children.
They are the reason that I, Mindy Zimmerman, daughter and granddaughter, have been an orchestra teacher in the Omaha Public Schools for over 20 years. It is through them that I was given the incredible opportunity to learn cello, travel for lessons, and find my true passion - teaching music.
We would like to continue their legacy by funding the dreams and aspirations of future musicians, teachers, and caregivers. It is through future generations that their love will continue to bless others.
