Our goal

The goal is to create an annual scholarship in memory of Andrew Tipikin (aka Handy Dandy Handyman). World's Best Handyman and a "jack-of-all-the-trades."  Andrew had a rare, "old school" work ethic. There is no job that was too complex or too simple -- he was always willing to tackle any project, including those that other contractors might shy away from. Andrew was meticulous, creative, responsive, and always punctual. He was a true mechanical genius, who always tried to find a solution to every problem and never gave up until he did. In a world where many do "just enough" or middling work, Andrew never sacrificed quality. Ultimately, the scholarship fund will support applicants who are parentless, orphans, or have spent significant time in the foster care system and are applying to or continuing their education in a trade school; they should also demonstrate financial need. Applicants will be asked to describe their definition of “work ethic” and provide examples of projects (in video or a series of photos) where they have exhibited resourcefulness, tenacity, and gumption.
