Our story
Alexis Mackenzie was a bright spirit who lit up the room with her positive energy and infectious laugh. She loved the arts including music, painting, and especially dancing. In fact, she was dancing before she was standing! I envisioned her becoming a dancer or a musician, but in 2018 her life ended all too soon.
Our goal
To honor her memory, I am creating a scholarship in her name.
The arts inspire us to dream, make us feel joy, connect us to those we love, take us to far away places, and unite us as people. But Arts funding is in trouble. In July of 2023, the House of representatives made deep funding cuts in the Fiscal 2024 Education funding bill, in some areas cutting 80% of Title 1 funding for schools serving low-income families and zeroing out programs like the arts in education grants.
The goal of this scholarship fund is to raise money to support minority (Black or Latina/Latinx) women with financial need and pursuing a career in the arts (dance, music, painting, etc.). Help us to raise these funds!
