Our story
Addie Jean Colburn was a God-fearing woman who dedicated her life to serving God, her family, and her community. She was a loving mother, a strong woman, and a woman who believed in helping others and encouraging people to become the best they could be.
My mother was a trailblazer in her community. She became the first Black director of DHS in Lee County, Mississippi, a position that reflected her determination, strength, and commitment to serving others. She worked hard throughout her life and understood the importance of education, opportunity, and having someone believe in you.
After her passing, I wanted to create something that would allow her legacy to continue helping young people. This scholarship is being established in her memory to help a deserving high school senior pursue their educational goals and take the next step toward their future.
My hope is that this scholarship will not only provide financial assistance, but also remind a young person that someone believes in them. Through this scholarship, my family and I want to keep Addie Jean Colburn's memory alive by investing in the future of another young person.
Her life touched many people, and we pray that her legacy will continue to touch lives for generations to come she passed away January 21st 2026 at 2:25pm with stage four skin cancer/melanoma
Our goal
We are starting this scholarship fund in memory of Addie Jean Colburn, a woman who believed in helping others and making a difference in the lives of young people. My cousin and I want to continue that spirit by creating a scholarship for a deserving high school senior who is planning to attend college or pursue further education.
We understand that many students have the desire and ability to continue their education but may not have the financial resources to do so. Our goal is to help ease some of that financial burden and give a student an opportunity to pursue their dreams.
We are seeking sponsors, donors, and supporters who are willing to contribute toward this scholarship. We are not expecting one person to provide the entire amount. Every contribution, large or small, can help us reach our goal and make a meaningful difference in a student's future.
Our hope is to honor Addie Jean Colburn's memory by helping a deserving student take the next step toward a brighter future.
