Our story

The 9/29/29 Youth Entrepreneurship Scholarship, established in 2024, honors the life and legacy of Elvera J. Smith, a devoted mother, educator, and advocate for youth empowerment. Elvera believed deeply in the power of education and lived a life dedicated to ensuring that every child—biological, adopted, or fostered—had the opportunity to thrive beyond their circumstances. This scholarship reflects her unwavering belief that no child should be limited by the hand they were dealt. Through her love, guidance, and generosity, she inspired countless young people to dream boldly and live fully. The 9/29/29 Scholarship is designed to support underprivileged youth who aspire to become entrepreneurs, providing them with the financial resources and encouragement to take their first steps toward building a better future. It aims to equip the next generation of visionaries with not only funding but also the belief that they, too, can create something extraordinary, just as Elvera believed in every child she raised. Elvera Smith passed away at 93 in 2023, but she always reminded her children of the amazing things they could become with hard work and dedication.

The scholarship will: 1. Empower the Next Generation of Innovators** Young entrepreneurs often have big ideas but limited resources. A scholarship can: * Remove financial barriers to education or business development. * Validate their efforts and encourage further innovation. * Provide early recognition that boosts their confidence and credibility. 2. Foster Economic Growth and Job Creation Supporting young entrepreneurs contributes to a more vibrant economy: * Many youth-led businesses create local jobs or fill unique market needs. * Investing early in entrepreneurial talent has a compounding effect on future business success. 3. Drive Social Impact** Youth are uniquely positioned to solve 21st-century challenges: * They bring fresh perspectives to issues like climate change, inequality, mental health, and digital inclusion. * Supporting mission-driven youth ventures can create scalable, community-based solutions. 4. Build a Legacy or Brand Alignment For individuals, companies, or foundations, a scholarship can: * Leave a lasting impact aligned with philanthropic or corporate social responsibility goals. * Enhance brand image by showing commitment to innovation, education, and youth empowerment. * Create a network of ambitious, grateful alumni who may later become collaborators, customers, or ambassadors. 5. Encourage Entrepreneurial Thinking in Education Traditional education often lacks focus on real-world business and problem-solving skills: * A scholarship sends a message that entrepreneurship is as valuable as academic excellence. * It encourages schools and students to prioritize creativity, initiative, and resilience.
