Mission

Joseph passed away on 15 October 2023. He was 41 and returned to school to finish his Master's Degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. In honor of his commitment and devotion to becoming a better version of himself, we aim to award mid-career individuals pursuing a degree in nursing a scholarship to make the leap of faith. Doing so honors Joe's memory by helping people realize a bold and daring vision of a better future.

    Melissa Noonan

Hello, my name is Melissa. Words can’t express my deepest gratitude for selecting me as a winner of your Scholarship. When I learned that I had been chosen, I was so excited! I had been worrying about how I would pay for my education, and this award has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. This has been a huge sign for me that I am on the right path and I am meant to stay on my journey in nursing school. Your generosity not only eases the financial burden of school but also motivates me to work harder, knowing that people like you believe in me and my goals. I am excited to step into this next chapter and to honor your support through my dedication and success. Thank you for your investment in my future. I hope to one day give back to others the way you have given to me. It means so much to my family and I! Your kindness has made an incredible difference in my life, and I hope to honor Joseph’s memory by supporting others with the same passion and courage. Thank you, Melissa Noonan

    Oni Manns

Good morning, my name is Oni, and I want to sincerely thank you for selecting me as the recipient of the Joseph Joshua Searor Memorial Scholarship. It’s surreal because the award email came as I was looking through my emails this morning. I was dealing with a trigeminal flare, trying to manage my pain and emotions after a run, and just pushing through everything I’ve been carrying: school, parenting, finances, and chronic health challenges. Then I looked, and when I did, there it was, confirmation, encouragement, and light at a time I needed it. It’s not just about the financial support, though that means a lot. It’s about feeling seen. It’s about knowing the work I’m doing, the sacrifices, the path I’ve chosen; it all matters. As a non-traditional student working toward my DNP, this award helps me stay focused and affirms I’m moving in the right direction. I’m honored to receive a scholarship in Joseph Joshua Searor’s memory. Like him, I returned to school later in life, driven by purpose and passion for nursing. Thank you for helping me continue forward. I’m truly, deeply grateful. Thank you, Oni Manns

    Dennis Pracht

Dear Searor, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for being chosen as a recipient of the Joseph Joshua Searor Memorial Scholarship. It’s truly an honor to receive this award, and I’m deeply moved to be part of Joseph’s enduring legacy, especially as someone who shares his passion for nursing and lifelong learning. This support comes at a pivotal point in my journey. As a U.S. Army veteran who survived an IED blast in Afghanistan, I’ve dedicated my life to transforming trauma into meaningful change. Your generosity allows me to continue my academic research in terrorism prevention and trauma-informed policy without the weight of financial barriers. I can focus more on developing innovative solutions that bridge mental health, national security, and public safety. I’m especially grateful to be recognized by a scholarship that celebrates Joseph’s courage to return to school and pursue a bold new vision for himself and his community. I’m honored to carry on Joseph Joshua Searor’s legacy through this scholarship and to strive, as he did, to become the best version of myself—both as a student and as a future practitioner. Your mission to make a daring leap possible for mid-career individuals like me is inspiring. I hope to honor Joseph’s memory by using my lived experiences and research to help create safer, more resilient communities for all. Thank you, Dennis Pracht

    Derik Wright

Dear Searor, I'm truly grateful to be selected for the Joseph Joshua Searor Memorial Scholarship. Receiving this award is both an honor and a profound encouragement as I work toward advancing my career in nursing. I'm glad to have learned about Joseph Joshua Searor through this scholarship, and his story inspires me deeply as I take steps to become a Nurse Practitioner. After dedicating 11 years as a NJ EMT and NREMT, I've chosen to pursue a second bachelor's and ultimately a master's degree in nursing so I can continue serving others at an even higher level. This scholarship eases the financial challenges of enrolling in an accelerated MSN/RN program, helping me focus wholeheartedly on my studies and clinical experiences. Joseph's dedication to returning to school and striving for personal and professional growth motivates me to embrace this next chapter with courage and optimism. Your support in honoring his legacy by encouraging mid-career students like myself means more than words can express. Thank you for believing in my potential and for helping me move closer to my dream of making a lasting impact in healthcare. Your kindness inspires me, and I hope to pay it forward throughout my nursing career. Thank you, Derik Wright
